Firewalls and antivirus programs

So, what firewalls and antivirus programs u use? And what u would recommend? I have now F-secure, and it's too heavy, my pc is slower and I have to turn one antivirus part off, if I want to play ET. I want to remove it and find some lighter but reliable firewall and antivirus program. I had comodo firewall earlier, but it caused problems with ET  |

i use avast! antivirus... have heard good reviews of nod32 and AVG aswell. havent used f-secure. most wellknown antiviruses do the trick... i havent had any big virus problems... all in hardware not in software =P
only thing i dont recommend to anyone is norton antivirus... that sucks ass =P it finds the virus but it is super paranoid... everything mite be a virus in its mind

And anti virus program AVG (free). |

Kaspersky Internet Security or Norton Internet Security. Two the best programs what don't use to much your computer. I use kaspersky and it is great. I know that Norton is same good in protection as Kaspersky but it is easier for system. If you have old computer you is the best. And any free anti-virus isn't good to protection in bad computer because free is always hard to system.

I use nod32 http://www.eset.com/ , its really light and finds everything thats harmfull
Its not free but download the trial and then when trial over go to these sites and refresh user and password , it works for me now over more then 5 years never had any problems.

The only thing I want to do is win, but the main thing is I want to break something along the way – a chin or jaw, rib, arm, some skin, anything.

Well, I don't use any antivirus/firewall at home, but at my university while I was in charge of few computer laboratories (~60 PC), the only antivirus that actually worked was Eset NOD32. Not only that it works great (I'm sure, with decent configuration every one of them should be sufficient), but it's very flexible and resource-friendly.

i have used kaspersky internet security from gangis advise... and im very thankful of gangis help... its has been very effective and light program for windows... BUT! something i have to disagree with gangi!! DONT TAKE NORTON!!! is full of crap... i used it for over an year and wasnt pleased for it...
Only thing on kaspersky is that u need to crack it on every month!
but its worth it!

The newest version Norton is really good. People with Symantec did very good work and now this program is really great. It use innovative system what detecting scaned files and don't scan it again. I can't explain it because my English language isn't good, but it help much and Norton have the smallest hardware use with every anti-virus applications now. About viruses detected it have acc near 98% same like other commercial applications this type.
Well don't tell that something is crap when you don't use it. Or if something was crap then tell version what you use and when you used it :)

i have used norton newer versions. came with my laptop.its paranoid as hell.thats why i dont reccomend it. i wanna be in control of it not it be in control of me.

The newest programs going to rule "Install and forgot". Same as as Norton and kaspersky. And it protect very good because it eliminate the worst element in system called human. I tell about hardware using by this program because Rauta have old PC. If you are interesting in self-control this program you have knowledge to chose anti-virus and firewall himself. If you want control it then you can control applications like Norton too. You must only know how.
For you it can be problem if you don't chose it himself. But to many people install and forgot is great thing. Especially to people who know about computers not to much.

I thought my pc is not that old  I ordered parts last September, so it is one year old and quite powerful - so I thought 
I have used Norton in my old pc few years ago, and I skipped it quite soon. |

Why so paranoid? If there is no hacker who wants to harm you and you know where to stick your head in (in english: you know how to work with a pc ) then the solution Vincent told is the best so far 
I am not using any AntiVirus since 5years and i NEVER had any virus on my pc (if i scan then i do a one-time scan but i dont do it anymore cause i dont need it )

Irre ignorance is benediction :) Only 30% viruses show you that it is on your PC. Most with viruses is not invasion. You don't know that it exist. You will know when police will call to you some day and tell you are arrest because you try hack some important institution. My firewall inform me about 4-5 attack on day with different IP address. IF you don't have firewall that 1 with this attack can give access someone to your comp. Have a nice day :)
