if your computer seems fine it dosent mean its fine
on avg. a computer connected to the internet without a firewall will be breached and under some1s control in less then 1 hour. =P

Ok , you pulled your own meaning out of my post .
I never said go online without firewall. I said that AntiVirus prgramms are SH*T.
I know very well that you don't realise most of everything that harms you.
If you read carefully i wrote: "If you know where to stick your head up (i wrote "in" but it must be "up" )."
I'm all the time 2 lazy to explain everything in english and I was sure that you understand what i write... But as i see you didn't .
I also didn't write Vincent's solution is the best of all - only the best i read so far here in ths thread.
I'm using software firewall (Commodo 64-Bit) and hardware firewall.
As a little addition i know where to stick my head up ( ) and I'm watching the activities via HiJackThis and a few other things.
But i'm not running any stupid AntiVirus program what slows my PC down. (It's also not that i wouldn't recommend some for "Newbies"
BTW: I'm using Opera

Then write that because if we can't understand you then ppl who know about computers less don't understand you too.
About your method. change hijackthis on combofix. It's better and hijackthis cant detect everything. Your method is good if you don't care about system. I mean you can reinstall it many times and you don't have there nothing important.
If you have access to more important sites like banks, work etc then it is hardcore. One key-logger and you can lost your many, one time you don't look that this site isn't in SSL protocol and you lost your data. You can know many about computer but you are still human.

And you think you are secure?:>
yeah, I think so. I hardened my environment, so you probably need to attack my system directly, which is rather unlikely to happen. Beside from this threat, I would call my system secure since virtually all known drive-by attacks will fail or only cause minimal harm since you not only have to attack an application to get onto the computer, but you also have to escalate your rigths to compromise the system permanently. It is not impossible but since there are billions of easy targets out there (Hello to all windows admin surfers) sophisticated attacks trying to infect a few hardened unixoid desktops are somewhat unlikely.
I'd call this secure to an economical reasonable extent .

Yes Linux is pretty secure. But as everyone this system use human. One mistake and you can create easy access to system to others. If you use Linux you need have more knowledge about system structure as windows users because You can change everything there.
About Mac well this system it more popular last time well more hackers start interesting in this system. With time it will same dangerous like windows.

well, of course you can mess up every system. if it is more open, you can mess up more
nevertheless you don't need to know more about operating systems if you use windows nowadays. I installed openSuSE on my parents computer and now they don't use windows anymore (which is also on there). On most linux distributions everything is pretty straight forward. You don't need to mess with drivers or try to get software from dubious websites. And regarding installation, it is one click and answering three or four questions (about your name, PW and your location for setting up time and keyboard layout).
And regarding Mac, they have pretty messed up some unix related concepts (you may want to google for setuid and mac os ) Furthermore, they try to lock in the user even more then microsoft does.
Cheers,

i have vista , but i dont like it, the harddisk make noize 7 min long after start, tryed everything but it dont work.... mayby i install XP again
Well, as hard as you hate Vista, it's definitely not Vista's fault that your HDD makes noises. Try freeing up some space, defragmenting hard drive, make some tweaks or proper disk partitioning. |
